Umber Cheema PhD
Senior Lecturer in Tissue Engineering. Graduate Tutor (research); Head of Education, Division of Surgery. Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science, Division of Surgery and Interventional Science, University College London, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Brockley Hill, Stanmore, Middlesex, HA7 4L.
Research interests include: 1) Engineering vascular networks in 3D engineered tissues to further understand the roles of native matrix density and composition. 2) Manipulating collagen fibril architecture to build biomimetic tissues in vitro, with provision of channels for vascular networks. 3) Development of a robust 3D in vitro model of solid tumour growth and invasion; engineered tumouroids include epithelial cancers and sarcomas. 4) engineering basic tissue models for studying how bubbles nucleate, grow and coalesce in tissues which are subjected to decompression regimes to mimic the ‘bends’ in diving.
