Andrew Phillips MEng PhD MEd CEng MIMechE FHEA

Reader in Structural Biomechanics, Structures Section. Department of Civil Engineering, Imperial College London, Skempton Building, South Kensington Campus, London SW7 2AZ

Andrew is an engineer who specialises in structural biomechanics, and in particular the development of combined musculoskeletal and finite element modelling approaches. He has developed a structural approach to modelling trabecular and cortical bone and their adaptation in response to loading. This has been used to identify which activities are most important in providing mechanical stimulation to maintain bone health in the femur, pelvis, and lumbar spine, as well as in predicting fracture loads and patterns. His most recent work is focused on improving the structural representation on trabecular bone in these computational models, while his work has application in developing mitigating strategies to maintain bone health in lower limb amputees and in the aging population.
