Interests: bone properties, particularly of abnormal bone such as osteoporosis and the effect of ageing, drugs and other factors. Currently this effort is focussed at the molecular or near molecular level using synchrotron x-ray diffraction techniques and molecular dynamics modelling.

Abnormal bone is often at the root of bone fracture and loosening of implants as the abnormal bone changes the conditions around the implant. Another long standing interest has been to better understand orthopaedic implant failure and how this can be prevented.
